'Uncontrollably Fond' Stills

No Eul (Bae Su Ji) and Shin Joon Young (Kim Woo Bin) were in a relationship as teenagers until they are suddenly separated. Years later No Eul is now a TV producer and Joon Young has become a top Hallyu star with an arrogant personality. When No Eul is assigned to produce a documentary on Joon Young the two have a second chance encounter as adults and cannot deny the spark between them.

Uncontrollably Fond was the talk of the KDrama world because of Kim Woo Bin and Suzy who are both big named stars in South Korea. The second chance romance between the two leads and the love-hate relationship they have are common tropes in drama that keep the viewers watching and wanting more!

JeJu Island Gatsby

Lee Jung Joo (Kang So Ra) has been hard at work her whole life and as a result becomes grouchy and pessimistic. After a series of unfortunate events, Jung Joo leaves the city of Seoul and moves to Jeju Island for a new start. Baek Geon Woo (Yoo Yun Suk) owns a restaurant called ‘Warm and Cozy’ on Jeju Island as a way to get away from his wealthy family. But when Jung Joo runs into Geon Woo, her first love, there is an unexpected meeting as the two clash with their polar opposite personalities. But will they start to build a romance as they continue to meet each other?

Jeju Island Gatsby by itself has a beautiful location on a quaint island resort. The two leads, Kang So Ra and Yoo Yun Suk, have an undeniable chemistry together and add to the mix the delicious food being served at ‘Warm and Cozy’ this is the perfect drama to watch on a spring afternoon with a nice breeze with some good food.

Madame Antoine

Hello, DramaSpot readers!

This week I am recommending the Romantic-Comedy: Madame Antoine.

Watch it on DramaFever, Viki, Netflix, and KissAsian.

Go Hye Rim (Han Ye Seul) is a famous romance fortune-teller who has made a name for herself by claiming her ability has come from a connection to Marie Antoinette. But really Hye Rim’s ‘powers’ are just from her keen observational skills. Choi Soo Hyun (Sung Joon) is a skeptical psychotherapist who doesn’t believe in Hye Rim’s powers of finding true love, or true love in general. When Hye Rim offers her abilities to Soo Hyun’s psychological test, her career is put in jeopardy.

Madame Antoine is such an interesting idea for a drama. It has all the aspects of a usual romantic comedy with the two leads falling for each other, even if at first they aren’t fond of each other. Han Ye Seul and Sung Joon have such an interesting chemistry from a romantic perspective and a comedic sense. I recommend this to anyone who loves the idea of a ‘LoveHate’ relationship and those who are interested in the ideas of powers or abilities.

Ex-Girlfriend Club

Kim Soo Jin (Song Ji Hyo) is a producer for a film company and is so focused on her career that she has not had much success in her romantic life. When the company she works for is falling into bankruptcy, she has no choice but to work with her ex, Bang Myeong Soo (Byun Yo Han). Myeong Soo is an artist who has a webtoon about his own romantic life and all the ex-girlfriends he has had, including Soo Jin; creating a webtoon that many are fans of because of how relatable they are. By sharing these intimate details of his life, Myeong Soo is viewed either as a true romantic or an enemy to romance. While Soo Jin and Myeong Soo work together, boundaries and emotions are pushed as Soo Jin tries to produce Myeong Soo’s webtoon into a movie.

Ex-Girlfriend Club is going to be hilarious. Just from the plot of what is going to happen, I can already tell that there is going to be so much drama, as well as a rekindle of romance between the two leads. Song Ji Hyo is hilarious and easily portrays what it’s like to meet an ex again after years of seeing them. At the same time, Byun Yo Han’s character is such an air-head and just has a charm that pulls you in to want to see more of him. Together these two leads compliment each other very well and will keep viewers wanting for more.

Emergency Couple

Welcome DramaSpot readers!

Starring Choi Jin Hyuk, Song Ji Hyo, Lee Pil Mo, Choi Yeo Jin, Lee Sung Min, and Kwon Min.

Watch it on DramaFever, Viki, and KissAsian.

Oh Chang Min (Choi Jin Hyuk) and Oh Jin Hee (Song Ji Hyo) were young and unaware of how harsh life could be when they got married. Living together Chang Min is working an unbearable job and Jin Hee is losing her hair from all the stress of living with Chang Min and fighting. When they divorce Chang Min goes back to his wealthy family while Jin Hee stays with her mother. Six years later both Chang Min and Jin Hee have gotten through medical school and end up meeting again when they learn they are both interning at the same hospital, specifically the emergency room. Forced to work together for three months, will Chang Min and Jin Hee’s romance kindle again?

This is such a dramatic show. There is the relationship drama between Chang Min and Jin Hee and meeting again and at the same time, there are so many medical mishaps occurring since they are in an emergency room. Fair warning some of the medical scenes can be a bit graphic and show blood, but it’s not too the extreme. But I think that this is a riveting drama that keeps you hooked from watching what will happen to each patient in the episode, as well as want to know if Chang Min and Jin Hee will end up together in the end.

Secret Garden

Hello, DramaSpot readers!

This week I am recommending the Romantic-Drama: Secret Garden.
Starring Hyun Bin, Ha Ji Won, Yoon Sang Hyun, Kim Sa Rang, Philip Lee, and Yoo In Na.
Written by Kim Eun Sook, this 20 episode series aired in 2010.
Watch it on DramaFever, Viki, and KissAsian.

Gil Ra Im (Ha Ji Won) is a passionate stunt woman who has a love for music, specifically a musician by the name of Oska. Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin) is an arrogant and cold heir to a large company. When Joo Won meets Ra Im he is fascinated by her strength and beauty. As romance blossoms between the two, something magical happens and Joo Won and Ra Im switch bodies! Having to learn more about each other to pass as one another’s identities, both learn more about the other and start to fall in love.

This is one of the classic KDrama’s I can think of. The mix of romance, drama and a bit of magic give this show a fantasy-like theme. The strange sudden magic of Ra Im and Joo Won switching bodies changes the story completely and gives it a unique twist to a familiar body-switching story. But Secret Garden is a charming romance story between two people from different backgrounds who learn to understand each other.

Pinocchio

Hello again, DramaSpot readers!

This week I am recommending the Romantic Drama: Pinocchio.
Starring Park Shin Hye, Lee Jong Suk, Kim Young Kwang, Lee Yoo Bi, and Byun Hee Bong.
Written by Park Hye Ryun, this 20 episode series aired in 2014.
Watch it on DramaFever, Viki, and KissAsian.

Set in a universe where there is a rare illness called the ‘Pinocchio syndrome’ where if someone lies they hiccup, Choi In Ha wishes to be a reporter but cannot lie without breaking out into hiccups. Thus it is seen as impossible for In Ha to become a reporter. At the same time Choi Dal Po, In Ha’s adopted brother, has been scorned by the media and wishes to have nothing to do with news outlets. But when In Ha goes to work for a news station, Dal Po follows her. Together they learn how media and news can be corrupt and learn their true feelings for each other.

This is an interesting drama to watch. The idea of the ‘Pinocchio syndrome’ and how it can halt a person’s career is strange to watch but also fascinating to see how In Ha wishes to use it to her advantage. Although it is strange how Dal Po and In Ha have possible relations, it’s important to remember that they aren’t actually related and have a mutual understanding towards each other. Overall this seems like a fun and unique drama that many will enjoy.
